SUWIE, introduced by Natalie
Sydney University Women in Engineering
Sydney Uni Women in Engineering (SUWIE) promotes, supports and encourages women in engineering. Men are of course welcome in all the society's activities (we even have a guy on the committee). It was created, and thus still exists, for a number of reasons:
1.
There are actually women engineers. Yes, not only the men of this world build towers, get their hands greasy and get ridiculously drunk.
2.
To hold events where there is close to an equivalent ratio of guys to girls.
3.
So beer is not the only available substance on offer at engineering events.
4.
Hear from professionals already succeeding in engineering outside uni. |
We hold a number of events throughout the year to keep your mind alive and livers not functioning:
1.
Mentoring - a place to meet other first years and those in years above before starting classes.
2.
Cocktail/Seminar evening - firstly get to hear from inspirational speakers from the industry, but also get very cheap cocktails after.
3.
SUWIE Annual Dinner - a sit down dinner with guest speakers. Gives everyone a chance to doll up and enjoy the evening in style.
4.
Breast Cancer Awareness - a cake stall to raise money for the breast cancer association. A great way to assist a worthy cause.
5.
More Cake Stalls - cause we all need a rest from engo burgers every now and again.
6.
Thai Night – cheap thai and wine at the end of the year.
