| The Engineering Library |
The Engineering Library more commonly known as Gin In Library was once
the heart of Engineering. Once a place where young engineers could
gather to whine, complain and play cards it served as the social hub -
occasionally people also studied. In mid 2008 the Library was closed due to 'impending refurbishment' by 2010 they had only managed to achieve stripping the old stuff out of the library and... well actually that’s it. With an impending revolution on their hands the faculty divided to reopen half the library with every piece of old furniture they could find strewn around the place. Once more the rooms were filled with gay laughter of card players, snoring of students 'studying' and frantic writing of people copying assignments. But it wasn't to last. At the end of first semester 2011 the Library was once more closed due to 'impending refurbishment'. Their original plan was to make SciTek 2.0 however due to overwhelming protest from students they decided they would make a library that actually had enough computers, tables and scanners. Even better they scrapped the ergonomic Mongolian lime green scoliosis inducing chairs at a $100 each - or at least we hope they did. They have promised that the library will reopen as an E-learning space for the start of classes 2012 but one need only look at their track record to have doubts. Until then the students of Engineering will look longingly at the place they once called home. For it was more than a library, it was a study, a bed room, a gym, gambling den, a place to trade answers and tape empty bottles of passion pop to chair legs. Yes we miss you library and await your eventual reopening with great anticipation. After all everyone knows there is Gin in Library |
